It is a potentiated alkaline glutaraldehyde (pH 7.4) with a phenate buffer that produces a synergistic effect accounting for the lowest level of glutaraldehyde necessary for 100% hospital level disinfection. Sporicidin Sterilizing & Disinfecting Solution is a 1% alkaline glutaraldehyde solution that is effective at 25°C and has excellent tuberculocidal and high level disinfection capabilities. Sporicidin Sterilizing & Disinfecting Solution provides effective high level disinfection of a wide range of endoscopes and other medical devices.
Sporicidin is a 1% glutaraldehyde sterilizing solution which has been used in hospitals and clinics on endoscopes since 1978. Cidex OPA, a more recent product, is not a sterilizing solution. It is a high level disinfectant containing orthophthalaldehyde, which recently caused "9 episodes of anaphylaxis following cystoscopy," as reported in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
